Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
