Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds. Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT. The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a different programme. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he spun at corner four early in the session. Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending corner leading to the final bend on to the pit straight. Hamilton wrapped up in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver. Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace. The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
