The former US president’s most recent warning to enforce an further complete levy on Chinese goods has been labeled a “typical example” of American hypocrisy, as stated by the China’s leadership.

A representative of the ministry also stated that Beijing could introduce its own undisclosed “countermeasures” if the American leader executes his warning, emphasizing that the country was “not afraid” of a looming commercial battle.

This past Friday, the former president responded at the Chinese government’s action to tighten its regulations for foreign shipments of rare earth minerals, alleging the Chinese leadership of “becoming very hostile” and attempting to hold the global community “under its control”.

He also warned to withdraw from a scheduled talks with Beijing’s head of state President Xi, which was set for a summit in Seoul later this month.

The former president’s remarks on that day unsettled stock exchanges, with the S&P 500 share index dropping 2.7%, marking its largest decline since last spring.

The president’s words reignited apprehensions of a commercial dispute between the United States and China.

This past spring, the both nations had agreed to eliminate high import duties on each other’s goods, which had raised the prospect of commerce ceasing between the two nations.

Consequently, US tariffs on Chinese goods facing an added import tax compared with the start of the year, while US goods entering China incur a ten percent duty.

The most recent comments from China – published by the Ministry of Commerce in the format of official answers to media inquiries – reflected terminology from the height of the latest commercial tensions.

The remarks condemned US export restrictions on electronic components while supporting China’s own overseas sale regulations on rare earth minerals as “normal actions” to protect domestic safety and that of every country.

The spokesperson remarked that for “an extended period”, the US had “expanded the interpretation” of national security, exploited overseas sale restrictions and “implemented” biased policies against Beijing.

“Resorting to trade levy ultimatums is not the correct approach to engage with Beijing,” their representative said.

“The nation’s view” on a tariff war has always been steady: we wish to avoid one, but we are not afraid of one.”

Last week, China announced it was strengthening overseas sale regulations on key elements and additional substances vital for cutting-edge industry.

This move was regarded as a significant step, as the state handles about ninety percent of the planet’s critical minerals, which are employed in goods such as photovoltaic modules and handheld devices.

New remarks from the US and China are being viewed by some as a method of bolstering negotiating stances prior to upcoming negotiations.
